The Morning Net is moving to VE7KU — Wed. May 6th, 2026!
Well, as you’ve probably noticed, the VE7RPQ repeater is still up and operational. We haven’t heard anything from Cercomm as to its future, but we are assuming that at some point, relatively soon, the site will be dismantled. In the meantime, VE7RPQ will remain up and available.
Not wanting to wait and be possibly caught off-guard, so to speak, we’re planning to move our Mid-Island Morning Net to the new VE7RBB/VE7KU/VE7RWC repeater system as of this upcoming Wednesday, May 6th, 2026. We’ve been kind of ‘split-shifting’ between the two systems on the occassional Wednesday mornings, but now we’re going to move over full time for all the morning nets, Sunday thru Friday.
For those that missed the other post, here’s how the new system looks: (This is what it will look like after full reconfiguration)

The VE7KU site is also located on Mt. Cokely, just a little bit further down the mountain so we will lose something in terms of height. However, what we gain is much easier accessibility (you can drive up there!) and interconnection with KU’s network, which includes a link via Mt. Ozard to the west coast of the Island — think Tofino and Ucluelet. It also will encourage more cooperation and work between the various amateur clubs in the area and opens up a host of other capabilities and services.
So.. start re-programming your radios to include the VE7KU repeater, as that will become our new ‘hub’ in the near future.
VE7KU is on VHF: 147.240 MHz +0.6MHz and a 141.3Hz tone;
UHF: 444.450 MHz +5Mhz also with a 141.3Hz tone.
Just a note: until the RPQ repeater actually shuts down, the Mt. Benson and QB Water Tower remote bases will still connect to RPQ, rather than RBB. Once RPQ is gone, we’ll have Mt. Benson and QBWT connect into RBB. By the way, the RPQ-R Echolink will be renamed to RBB-R at that time as well…
