Mid Island Net Control Script

The Mid Island Net is a social net hosted by designated controllers. It’s purpose is to provide a welcoming venue for interested hams to share ideas and topics of interest to the community.

Introduction

  • 08:45 “This is __________, Net Control Operator for the MId-Island Morning Net for __, 2026.”
  • “This Net meets each Sunday to Friday from 8:45 to 9:15 on the VE7KU repeater system consisting of: a) VE7KU on Mt. Cokely; b) VE7RBB at Errington Fire Hall #1; c) Linked simplex remote bases on Mt. Benson just west of Nanaimo and the Water Tower in Qualicum Beach; and d) Echolink via VE7KU-R or VE7RBB-R. VE7KU is also available via IRLP node 1120. Frequencies and tones for accessing our repeaters are available at MIRA’s website — www.midislandradio.ca
  • “The purpose of the net is to check-in and discuss topics of interest to our community, so what we usually do is call for check-in to see who is around and then go back to see if there is a topic of interest for the second round. Please see our website for information on weekly activities and upcoming events in the MIdIsland Community”
  • “Is there any priority traffic? Announcements?”
  • “Are there any sick or injured to report?”
  • “Check ins — starting with those who’d like to ‘check and run'”
  • “Newcomers/new hams? Echolink?”
  • “Are there any mobile, QRP, handhelds ?”
  • … if none, or after all in-and-outs, start general check-in …

General Check-In & Discussion

  • “General check-ins to the Net, go ahead now …”
  • [Keep a list of stations checking in. Use this list to keep order during the following discussion.]
  • [After the first round of general check-ins is complete, then go back through the list to allow comments on any topic that NC has or that has come up during checkins.]

Conclusion & Close

  • [Nearing 09:15 am, or earlier if the Net appears to be puttering out …]
  • 09:30+ “We’re now at the end of the net. If there are any late or missed check-ins or last comments before we close the net, go ahead now …”
  • If nothing heard …
  • “This closes the Mid Island Morning Net for __________, 2026.
  • “Thank you to everyone who participated in this morning’s net.”
  • We had ______ check-ins, including myself.
  • This is ____, closing the Net at am local time and returning the repeaters to normal use. This is ____, clear.”
